Testing Drive Mechanisms
Posted: May 2, 2014 Filed under: BSc Constellation | Tags: Crane, Gareth Loudon Leave a commentWhilst playing around with components we discovered that an effective and efficient way of driving the pivot would be using an existing gearbox from an old wind up radio to turn the turret via belt drive. Because this worked so effectively we then began to develop our own cog systems from both acrylic and lazer ply but sadly we were unable to create an effective system so we looked for farther alternatives. Issues we had were with friction and warping and burning of the material due to the scale of our components and tooling.
