Second Year Project: OrangeBox, Office Furniture – Part Two, Second Development.

Reduced features with simplified manufacturing processes. Retaining aluminium and wood veneers, with a simplified ‘saddle’ bag. The chair was separated from the table to allow it to be moved around the desk.

For this second series of developments, I worked with another tutour who specialises in manufacturing. He advised me to consider further developming the design in order to; minimise the number of manufacturing processes required, use less material, use materials which could be recycled at the end of the product life, modify the form of the components focusing on usability and ease of manufacture, rather than aesthetics. After developing and presenting him with these boards, he advised me on some further development modifications to make before my final assessment in May, the most notable of these is to consider reducing the number of fasteners, and to consider other methods of fastening the pieces together, such as cams and wood joints.
